Meet Our School Dogs

Meet Ivy and Hazel

Our first school dog Ivy joined us as a 10 week old puppy in November 2020.  Born on 12th August Ivy is a German Shorthaired Pointer chosen for the breeds loving nature.  Ivy has now achieved all of her Kennel Club Good Citizen awards puppy, bronze, silver and gold.

Hazel joined us four months later when Mr Davies decided to add a German Shorthaired Pointer to his family.  Hazel also attends training classes and is working towards the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Awards.

The addition of school dogs to the Christ Church family has had a beneficial effect on wellbeing for all.  Starting the school day on the gate welcoming children and greeting family members Ivy and Hazel both love being in school as much as the children and staff love having them.  They spend the day either in class, Mr Davies's office (where they find all the treats) or outside on the playground with the children enjoying break and lunch time.  Working with individuals or groups every day is different, time can be spent as a reward or just when a little quiet time is needed, whatever the reason Ivy and Hazel provide that special friend, helping the children to build self-esteem, relax and have fun.
