In Rainbow group, we follow White Rose Maths. We often use practical (concrete) resources to help develop our understanding of mathematical concepts. We then spend time developing pictorial and abstract methods.

Please, click on the link below if you would like to find out more about the different methods and how we teach the children.

Money, money, money

This week we have been learning all about money. We can find totals using pounds and pence, give change within 50p and find different ways of making amounts using coins and notes.

We've had a great time using the coins in our Rainbow shop this week.

This week, we have been using  concrete materials to group and share. In these photos we are problem  solving.  How many ways can we share 16 flowers?

Grouping and sharing

We have completed our addition and subtraction unit of work. We have used pictorial methods and jottings and the formal written methods. We used our knowledge of calculations to solve problems.
