Maths Daily Lesson

Our Daily Maths Lessons

At Christ Church CE Primary School, we believe that all children can become confident and successful mathematicians. Our daily mathematics lessons are carefully structured to provide opportunities for pupils to develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills within a supportive environment where children feel safe, valued and able to take risks in their learning.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children develop early mathematical understanding through a balance of adult-led teaching, practical exploration and purposeful continuous provision. Children are encouraged to investigate number, pattern, shape, space and measure through engaging and meaningful experiences which build strong foundations for future learning.

In Key Stage One, children receive a daily mathematics lesson alongside dedicated arithmetic and fluency practice. Learning is carefully structured to develop confidence in number, strengthen understanding and introduce formal written methods. Children are encouraged to explain their thinking, use mathematical vocabulary and make connections between different mathematical concepts.

In Key Stage Two, pupils build on these foundations through daily mathematics lessons and arithmetic sessions. Learning focuses on developing fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills whilst encouraging children to think critically, justify their answers and apply their knowledge to increasingly complex mathematical situations.

Across the school, all mathematics lessons follow our Super Seven Learning Journey:

  1. Revisit and Review
  2. Learning Objective
  3. Vocabulary and Toolkit
  4. Modelled
  5. Guided
  6. Independent
  7. Challenge

This consistent approach supports children in becoming increasingly independent learners whilst ensuring opportunities for support, challenge and success for all. Daily retrieval practice and arithmetic help children strengthen their understanding, retain key knowledge and develop confidence in applying previously taught skills.

Through high-quality teaching,  and carefully planned opportunities for discussion and collaboration, we aim to ensure every child develops a deep understanding of mathematics and leaves Christ Church as a confident, resilient mathematician ready for the next stage of their education.

Love and learn together.
